Since March 2002, 67 families with disabilities have realized the American dream of home ownership. Low and very-low income people with disabilities and their families believe home ownership is not a reality. As a result of the Homeownership Coalition’s outreach, they are finding out that home ownership is indeed possible.

As a result of the Homeownership Coalition’s outreach, they are finding out that home ownership is indeed possible. "John", age 45, from Lincoln, receives $552 a month from Social Security. USDA Rural Development will provide a subsidy for his mortgage loan, to lower the interest rate to 1%. With the Homeownership Coalition providing $10,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLB), his total monthly mortgage payment for his $39,000 home will only be $180.00!
